Philadelphia Abandoned

Using the Pierre Nicole Map

While the Continentals and Redcoats clash near Saratoga in upstate New York to determine the fate of the Mohawk Valley, a new threat has emerged in Pennsylvania. Executing a two-pronged attack, the remaining 15,000 troops of the British Army in North America marched on the Patriot capital of Philadelphia on September 26, 1777.

Ill-equipped and outnumbered, the remaining Continental Army forces under George Washington are stretched to their breaking point and have no choice but to abandon Philadelphia. As Congress flees the city, the Continentals regroup for winter quarters in the nearby encampment of Valley Forge—driven back, but not yet beaten.

Though the British under General Howe style themselves as liberators, the spirited population of Philadelphia chafes under their rule and the occasional instance of looting. However, many members of high society have everything to lose should their estates be confiscated by the Crown. Some of the gentry become willing collaborators with the Redcoats, turning the occupied city into a hotbed of intrigue between Patriot and Loyalist sympathizers…

This full-color map was composited from high-resolution scans of a period artifact named (ahem) "A survey of the city of Philadelphia and its environs shewing the several works constructed by His Majesty's troops, under the command of Sir William Howe, since their possession of that city 26th. September 1777, comprehending likewise the attacks against Fort Mifflin on Mud Island, and until it's reduction, 16th November 1777," created by Pierre Nicole.

Annotations and rollable tables were made by the Flagbearer Games team following the Ghosts of Saltmarsh format, which does a great job of mixing general information and story hooks + specific details on points of interest and some fun rollable tables.
